Equally to the surprise of some, the original goal of $50,000 was not sufficient to complete the project. First estimates were that the memorial would contain 2,000 names, when the applications were received and counted, there were nearly 3,000. With this increase in names and lettering to be done, the number of columns in the memorial had to be increased to accomodate the additional names. |
